The new football stadium for the EURO 2012 European football championships will be the largest structure of the kind in Pomerania. The cost of building is PLN 623 million. During the championship games, the stadium will host 3 group matches and 1 quarter-final. The stands can accommodate 42 thousand fans.
The inspiration of architects designing the stadium was natural beauty of amber, associated with Gdańsk inseparably. It is why the facade of PGE Arena is covered with tiles in various shades of brown reminding of amber.
The new football stadium in Gdańsk Letnica is a facility with functionalities making it possible to use it on days when no matches will be held on it. These functionalities include a conference centre (with VIP restaurant), stores, pubs, commercial and service area under the stadium. Lechia Sports Club games, concerts of music celebrities and other events will be mostly 1- or 2-day ones, held mainly in weekends. To fully utilise potential of the facility, an important element of its future exploitation will be the very use of none-event days, which will make it possible for the stadium to become a place teeming with life.
In the very close vicinity of the stadium the new, modern international exhibition & conference center - AMBER EXPO - operated by Gdańsk International Fair SA is beeing built.
In assumption, the stadium infrastructure in itself is prepared in such a way so that to develop entertainment and recreation elements for Tricity citizens and tourists seven day a week. It is the reason for a number of significant changes introduced during implementation of the project, which included among other things designing a commercial area for various types of business and service activity, totalling 9,000 sq. m. An important element of the adjacent infrastructure will be a roller-skating lane running around the external ring of the promenade and connected with bicycle routes stretching among other things along the seaside zone, and connected with Sopot.
Lechia Operator company was elected the operator.
