On 17 June 2010 at the Scandic Hotel in Gdansk took place EcoHotel Seminar designed to educate the representatives of the hospitality industry in the Pomorskie voivodship environmental protection.
The meeting was organized by the Gdańsk Convention Bureau, which received a workshop grant from the Wojewódzki Fundusz Ochrony Środowiska and Gospodarki Wodnej.The honorary patronage of the seminar took the Marshal of the Pomorskie Voivodeship, Mr. Mieczysław Struk.Seminar participants were mostly representatives of small and large hotels and other stakeholders in the travel industry.The meeting was conducted by Moderator Mr. Robert Pochyluka, Director of Eco-net.pl - a company whose main area of activity is advising on improving environmental management systems, primarily for compliance with the law.The seminar was divided into four thematic modules of the responsibilities, opportunities and costs, experience and financing environmental projects. Within these issues delivered their presentations:
- Mrs. Krystyna Tolloczko - Office of the Marshal of Pomorskie: "What are the responsibilities of environmental protection in hotel industry?",
- Mrs Sylwia Szymiec – Scandic Hotel: "Getting to know the solutions in environmentally friendly Scandic Hotel Gdańsk",
- Mrs. Alexander Pacult - Environmental Partnership Foundation: "The Clean Tourism",
- Mrs. Joanna Tkaczyk - Polish Centre for Testing and Certification: Mark Polish Ecological and Ecolabel - Community eco-label for hotel services ",
- Mr. Robert Pochyluk-eko-net.pl, Polish Forum ISO 14001: Environmental management systems and eco-label ",
- Mr. Michael Dabrowski-European Projects Group Sp. Ltd.: "A review of available sources of financing projects for the protection of the environment for the hospitality industry”.

Environmental protection themes met with great interest, which was reflected the lively discussion after each presentation. They talked about introduction of technological and organizational solutions conducive to environmental protection. The existence of environmental issues in hotel management in particular as regards water and wastewater, energy, having a direct relationship to the size of the costs of operating facilities.Participants of the seminar were  interested in practical environmental solutions that could be implemented above their hotels.It was said that a solution conducive to environmental protection is still  a new issue that requires a consistent definition of education and the benefits flowing to the owners of accommodation facilities..The most popular modules were "hotel experience" and "the possibilities and costs of implementing environmental solutions”. All respondents agreed that such meetings should be organized in the future and every object should have implemented solutions to protect the environment. As the biggest obstacles to the implementation of environmental solutions indicated excessively high costs and lack of knowledge about environmental best practice.
