International Conference “Time of Museums – Meet Living History” (16-18 September 2010)

International Conference “Time of Museums – Meet Living History” (16-18 September 2010)

In 2009, in an initiative to promote the Malopolska region, the Krakow City Commune prepared the implementation of a “Museum project for selected sites around the world – promotion of museum routes in Europe”.
The project is intended to serve European travellers, whose visits to Krakow for culture or business provide an opportunity and a reason
to learn more about its cultural heritage.
It has also been created to address the needs of participants of symposiums and conferences who seek to make use of unique interiors
and spaces, as well as to plan enjoyable activities for their free time in the city. For the duration of the program, January to December 2010, the City of Krakow has planned its specific products so as to best satisfy the expectations of the various potential recipients, including organisers and participants of events as well as tour operators and tourists.
The museum offer will be presented in the form of 6 routes, each unified by a theme – “Hits of Krakow Museums”, “Art of the Young Poland Movement”, “Route of Science and workshops will be attended by tour operators, planners, museum workers and professional congress organisers. Museum promotions aimed at business travellers will be presented.
The panel sessions will also be an opportunity to establish contacts with other attendees. Another attraction will be a chance to get acquainted with the newest Krakow tourist route, underneath the Main Market Squarethe largest underground museum in Europe (6,000m2) with its ultra-modern multimedia exhibition, showcasing medieval Krakow with
its old houses, stalls, water conduits and even graves. The project will be concluded with a 3-day international conference entitled “Time of
Museums – Meet Living History”
(16-18 September 2010), which will be attended by around 350 trendsetting international tourism services
professionals, representatives of museums and major European cities, meeting planners, guides and journalists. In addition to learning about the tourism potential of Małopolska and Krakow, conference participants will have an opportunity to become familiar with the collections of Krakow’s museums, their products and methods for promoting them abroad. The participation of the public sector in the tourist promotion of museums and the development of museum promotions targeted at the business customer will be discussed. Among the speakers will be representatives of the United Nations World Tourism Organization and European Cities Marketing.
