Krzysztof Jan Kaliński

Background information:In 1980 he completed his MA studies with honours at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Technology at Gdańsk University of Technology. A year later, after 10 months in the army, he was promoted to second lieutenant and then found employment in 'Mostostal', a company located in Gdańsk. The next step on his career ladder is Gdańsk University of Technology. He has always dealt with difficult practical problems in dynamics and machine control. He has been on numerous research, teaching and vocational placements in several countries. He has had additional employment at higher schools (e.g. at Basrag University in Iraq) and in the industry sector (e.g. in 'Techmet' company in Pruszcz Gdański). He has published 180 scientific papers (mostly of international relevance), including two monographs (the third one is in preparation). In 1988 he received his doctoral degree (on computer methods in mechanics - with distinction), and in 2002 - the title of habilitated doctor (on construction and applicatin of machines - with distinction). In 2003 he successfully formed a team for supervising dynamic processes based on the research on speedy metal processing, robots and mobile platforms. He prepared and managed 5 research projects for the Ministry of Science and Higher Education. At that time he not only multiplied his achievements but also promoted his school of thought on the international arena. He supervised 2 dissertations (2007 - with distinction, 2008), and is currently supervising 2 further dissertations. He assessed 29 EU projects in 4 editions. He has written 11 reviews commissioned by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, reviewed dissertations and has written numerous scientific papers (for both the national and international audience).
In 2005-2008 he was Vice Dean for Educational Matters at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at Gdansk University of Technology. He supervised the opening of 3 new specialisations. His direct involvement in the development of the Department of Mechatronics contributed to the doubling of the number of candidates. In 2008, he acted as the Rector's proxy to successfully apply for PG's membership of SEFI (the European Association for Engineering Education).
He has initiated and maintained regular scientific and didactic relationships with numerous national institutions (e.g. AGH University of Science and Technology in Kraków, Szczecin University of Technology, Warsaw University of Technology, Silesian University of Technology, Polish Academy of Sciences, EnergoControl Kraków, Engineering Design Center (EDC) in Warsaw) and foreign institutions (Metz University, ENIM Metz, Technical University of Munich, Technical University of Hamburg Harburg, vMach Engineering Monachium, ModuleWorks and CAMAIX in Germany, Gesellschaft für Angewandte Mathematik und Mechanik, Deutsche Gesellschaft für Luft- und Raumfahrt).
Since 2008 he has supervised the teaching of the Strength of Materials and since 2009 he has coordinated the specialisation of Mechatronics at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at PG and the creation of a syllabus for postgraduate studies.

• Prof. Wrycza’s main academic interests include: economic information systems, analysis and design of information systems, data bases, UML and SysML, electronic economy and e-learning.
• Prof. Wrycza has been the supervisor of over 500 doctoral dissertations, master’s theses and bachelor’s theses, several of which have received national and international awards.
• He is the author and co-author of over 150 works published in many countries. His 30 books have been published in the USA, Great Britain, Germany and Poland.
